Handout- reading techniques

Combination task
Identifying handouts
Reading a written source and extracting information
Obtaining information from a handout

Toolkit
Identifying specific written sources
Reading
Extracting information

Write notes, summarise, highlight text, annotate document, underline passages, copy and paste extracts

When reading this handout I will skim-read and scan read as well as read the whole text with concentration. Reading with concentration will let me be able to understand what the text is about and understand what they are trying to inform or evaluate. Skim-reading is helpful in order to pick out key information such as the title and subheadings/topics of certain aspects of psychological abuse. Scan reading is effective in using during my research as it enables me to locate certain words and phrases which appear several times and explain what some sorts of abuse can be.

I have highlighted key elements and words such as the subheadings of this handout in order to understand the types of abuse that can be used, for example; Name Calling, Demeaning Statements, Intimidation etc. Included underneath these subheadings are different types of abuse that someone can use as it is a self-evaluation handout. It is important to understand that the handout is self-evaluated as it is not normally, this way it is making the people investigating the research as well as the person answering the questions which people may be abusers in certain relationships, especially towards a spouse.
