Evaluate how different annotation techniques
worked with differing degrees of effectiveness for extracting different sorts
of information.
Annotation techniques:
1. Highlighting
2. Underlining
3. Labelling
Before you start to annotate your chosen text it is important to read all of the writing. Failing to read text before you start to annotate you may not be able to identify significant information.
Highlighting is effective in identifying key information and passages in a text such as a relevant quote. Highlighting is useful in finding and keeping in mind what quotes and passes are useful. Highlighting can be useful with:
- Identifying key ideas
- Passage introductions
- Potential contact information
- Short phrases
Underlining is effective in identifying key words relating
to the topic or information you are looking for. Underlining is a lot like highlighting. It identifies key elements that you want to stand out against the rest of the text. Underlining can be used for other relevant data such as:
- Large sections of text
- Names
- Places
- Repetitive ideas
- Potential difficult words
Labelling is effective in putting certain information into
categories and specific places with other extracts relating to each other. It is a useful annotation technique to label various information as you are able to identify different categories and areas of the text. Labelling can make it easier to gather the data.
